WELCOME

Since its foundation in 1983, the Society of Construction Law has worked to promote for the public benefit education, study and research in the field of construction law and related subjects (including adr, arbitration and adjudication), both in the UK and overseas.

The Society now has 2090 members from all sectors of the construction industry. It is run by a Council of 20 elected members.

The Society holds frequent meetings and other events in London and around the country.

The Society welcomes new members, both 'full' and 'overseas e-members'. Read more about benefits, and how to apply.

We have regional coordinators in many parts of UK & Eire, and contacts with Societies in Europe and Hong Kong.

The slides from the talk by Alexander Nissen QC at the National Liberal Club on November 4, entitled “A designer's duty - a time for review”, are available for download.

SCL HUDSON PRIZE 2008 - INCREASED PRIZE MONEY!
Entries are now invited for the 2008 Competition from all entrants with an interest in construction law and an idea which they wish to share.  The length of essay is a maximum of 5,000 words and the judging panel places emphasis upon originality of thought and approach. The winner will receive £2,000 (up from £1,500) and second prize will be rewarded with £1,000 (up from £750). The closing date for entries is Friday, 2nd January 2009. Full details in the flyer.

NEW PAPERS
Two new papers have been added to our publications page: "Catching Water in a Net: The Elusive Concept of 'A Reasonable Settlement'" (by Judge Peter Coulson QC), and "Payment under the Construction Act: Current Case Law" (by Nicholas Gould).
